LC1500 Performance Enhancements
![]()
There are two ways to go with performance
enhancements
for the LC. The stage 1 is slightly better for low end torque
and the stage 3 has more midrange punch. Stage 1 torque
peak is around 3000 RPM and the stage 3 peaks at around
4000 RPM. With either one the bike is a tractor, but the
stage 3 runs best above 3000 RPM.
With either set-up a good aftermarket
exhaust system
and a Dyna 3000 ignition module are recommended to
make the most of it. The Dyna will improve throttle
response and mileage a bit. Whether you use stage 1
or stage 3 your mileage will average about 37MPG.
In other words 40+ if you baby it, and 33 if you push it hard.
Jet kits are a rip-off. They cost 4 times
what the parts
are worth, don't include all the parts you need, and
contain needles that will destroy your carbs and cost
you a fortune.

Talk to Robert, he usually has both stages in stock.
Or buy them somwhere else, but make sure you get
"Genuine Mikuni Jets" and shims .020"
thick.
Main jets are part # N102.221 Small Round type
(specify size).
Pilot jets are part # N224.103 in #37.5 size.

Sea level or close to it. High altitudes require different settings
Stage 1:
Stock air filter with the little "hood
scoop" removed
from the top of the filter.
Or a K&N filter part# SU-1598.
#117.5 main jet in the rear carb.
#120 main jet in the front carb.
One shim under each needle.
#37.5 pilot jets.
Mixture screws at 2-1/2 turns out.
Stage 3:
There are 2 ways to go with the air filter.
1) Remove
the airbox and replace it with a K&N filter,
part # RU-2920. This will require installing a small
filter on the end of the crankcase breather hose. Any
filter with a neck on it to fit in a 1/2" hose will work
(K&N or other).
THIS WILL HAVE AUDIBLE
INTAKE NOISE FROM THE
SADDLE. SOME PEOPLE FIND IT IRRITATING AND A
WINDSHIELD MAKES IT WORSE.
2) Purchase
the K&N filter, part # SU-1598 and cut the top
lid out to the inside of the filter media. This gives a much
larger air inlet hole. You can keep the airbox and have a
high flow K&N filter too. No intake noise and the crankcase
breather still vents to the airbox. It's a little work, but
gives nice results.

With either stage 3 setup you will need
to change the main jets.
Buy a #157.5, and #160 main jets.
Install the #157.5 in the rear carb and the #160 in the front carb.
The rest of the set-up stays the same as stage 1.
