Port Dover

Friday The 13th 2004


I headed out for Port Dover at 6:30 am which was an hour later than originally planned.
It was a little cool, but looked like it was going to be a pleasant day. About 30 minutes from the festivities in Port Dover I ran into Rain. Stop put on the rain gear and make a quick call to my friends in ACME to let them know so they can be prepared if they stop in Hamilton. As I arrive in Port Dover I'm slowed a little by an accident before I get my bike parked. Upon getting the bike parked I head down to Tims' for a coffee and see if I can find RJ & Sue. No luck finding them yet, so I head up the street to see some of the bikes and the people. Did I mention it's raining? Never mind I'm here for a good time so I continue my stroll and photograph a few Intruders. This is just a large Intruder Rally, isn't it???

As I'm walking back down the street on my way to Tims' again I run into a few of my riding friends, just getting parked. Paula, Rose, Don, Gary & Esther have just arrived so I do a little walking with them.The ladies are cold and want something hot so we head in the direction of Tims'. Next thing you know I run into Canuck in front of the park where the vendors are set up so we have a little chat while my friends are stopped for a bathroom break. The drive thru window at Tims' is a walk thru on Friday the 13th so we get in the line, when a friendly passerby mentions he had a decent coffee from a beef wagon in front of the building next door, so we head there and decide to get something to eat as well as drink. I attempt to phone RJ again and am finally able to get a signal in my cell. Praying RJ answers, before I lose the signal I find out they are just behind the old Tims' and tell them I'll be over in a cpl minutes. Finished my breakkie (fries & gravey), say goodbye to Rose & company and head out to hook up with old friends, whom I don't see enough of, and to meet some new friends from the Cafe @ Intruder Alert

Walking around with friends you don't see in a while is fun, so RJ, Sue & I, start working our way through the crowds to see the sights. The rain has really dampened some of the sights you would normally see @ Dover. Before Dover, the members of the Cafe had set up some times to meet, so we headed behind the old Tims' at various times to see who has arrived. Tbeck & VSAmerica (John) have arrived as it's easy to spot Tbeck's PURPLE Harley (it's not blue Tim) lol. The last time I met John, I had a vendors booth so I didn't have a chance to get to chat with him, this time was much better. Of course I had spent a few days riding with Tbeck in North Carolina in late June, so it was nice seeing him again. These boys sure take a long time to travel 21 miles though as it took them 5+ hours to get here. I guess the problem is the little lake (Erie) that they had to travel around.

More walking around, this time with Tbeck & John, and I run into Chris Simmons. Chris Simmons is the reason Friday the 13th is the party it is. Back in the early 80's Chris and a few friends got together on a Friday the 13th & decided they had so much fun they would do it every Friday the 13th. Well you know the old story; they told two friends, who told two friends and that small original gathering now attracts over 100,000 people to this small town on the shore of Lake Erie. Ran into a cpl of my regular riding buddies Lorne & Jeff and asked the whereabouts of Eddie D & Purple_Passion. Didn't see any other members of the ACME Motorcycle Club until later when I finally hooked up with Purple_Passion. Before we again head in the direction of Tims', Tbeck & John saved some poor lady and her hubby from me and info on the Intruder & the Cafe LMAO. While standing in the line @ Tims' I see Purple_Passion, Eddie D and my friend Darren aka IceMan. We get our coffees and head back to see who has arrived @ our designated meeting place. Luxbluice & his lady Barb have now arrived, so more introductions are conducted, before they head out with their friends. Tbeck has decided it's now time for him to head back & John is heading to Brantford to find his hotel. More walking around before our final meet time, where Emu joins us as Darren, Eddie D, Tara and myself decide it's time to head out. A trip to see Niagara Falls is on the agenda, before the trip back to Toronto.

Despite the rain Port Dover was a blast. As always it's great to meet members from the Intruder Alert Cafe and to renew acquaintenances from other places. I'm sure I'll see some of my friends before the next Friday the 13th and hopefully I'll meet a few new ones too. Thanks to everyone for a great day
