Seat Removal VS800 Intruder

Motorcycle

VS800 Intruder

1. On the right side, at the upper corner of the side panel is a 10mm bolt, remove it, then pop loose the side cover. It's held on with 2 grommet thingies.

2. On the left side down below the side cover and dead center to it is a phillips screw (dark screw), way back in there. Take that out, then pop loose the side cover the same way.

3. On both sides is another set of screws or 10mm bolts, that hold the front of the seat down. (they're holding that white plastic thingy) Take them out, then pull the front of the seat straight up. It will "unhook" from the rear bracket.

4. Now right at the base of the tank is 1-10mm bolt. You'll undo that in a minute. First shut your fuel valve off, then disconnect that hose right there. There is only one, unless you're a california bike. Now pull that bolt, and pay attention to how all those washers and grommets stack up. (each bike is a bit different here)

5. You don't have to remove the tank, because you can fish that leather thong thru without removing it. But if you want to take it off, just lift the rear, while pulling the tank towards the back of the bike.

6. Assembly is the reverse. Tighten but don't gronk the tank bolt, a little vaselene on the grommets makes it easier, and don't forget the fuel line, and to open the valve. (embarassing about 600yds down the road.)

That should do it.

Additional Note from Night_Wolf

BTW when you take the rear seat off, why don't you change the bolt that holds the rear seat.

1: Head to the hardware store and pick up (1) 1.5 inch bolt, (2) nuts, (1) locking washer, (1) wingnut.

2: Drill the hole where the original bolts goes ( if you have ) to make the bolt fit and bring it up from Under the fender.

3: Attach the 2 nuts and locking washer. This will keep it from vibrating loose and when you put the rear seat back on use the wingnut to secure it.

Next time it'll be easier and quicker and you won't have as many problems when removing and re-attaching the seat in the future. Do this removal enough times, and sooner or later, you'll either strip the threads on the original screw or the hole itself.

Ask me how I know, as I remove my saddlebags when I wash my bike ( cpl times a week )
