VS1400 Intruder/S83 Boulevard Differences

It’s IMPORTANT to NOTE: Mechanically there are very few
differences
from the 1987 VS1400 Intruder, through the 2009
S83 Boulevard

These are the changes, that I am aware of, between the older
VS1400 Intruder & the
S83 Boulevard

1987 through 1989 use a CDI specific to those model years
1990 through 1994 use a CDI specific to those model years
1995 through 2009 use a CDI specific to those model years

S83 Tall Risers with Drag Bars
VS1400 Short Risers with "Buckhorn" bars
Tall Risers with "Buckhorn" bars
WILL need longer cables (speedo, throttle) longer clutch & brake lines &
longer wiring
Short risers can NOT be used with Drag Bars or bars will hit the tank

VS1400 2 piece riser cap

S83 Switch housing on left handlebar has yellow "flash to pass" button
VS1400 No "Flash to Pass" switch

S83 Switch housing on right handlebar has "4 way Hazard function"
VS1400 No "4 way Hazard function" switch on

S83 Signals are “Pointed”, but are interchangeable
in “pairs”
VS1400 Signals are “Flat” but are interchangeable in “pairs”
6:) S83 Backrest optional &
can use the assembly from the VS Intruders
VS1400 Backrest standard & can be used for the S83

S83 Toolkit in chrome box on right side of motor
VS1400 Toolkit stored in backrest
Toolbox can be removed from side of motor & holes are "tapped" for three metric 6 mm bolts

S83 1 piece seat
VS1400 2 piece seat AFAIK seats are interchangeable

21" rim from VS700/VS750VS/800 Intruders is a direct swap
with the VS1400 & S83 Boulevard

19" spoked rim from VS700/VS750 & VS800 is a direct bolt on for the
VS1400 & S83 Boulevard

19" Snowflake rim from VS700/VS750 Intruders is a swap-able
item & WILL work on the VS1400/S83;

Rim on the VS700/VS750 has the brake rotor on the left &
the rim needs to be "flipped" & tire mounted, so that the brake
rotor is on the right for use on the VS1400/S83
