VS1400 Intruder/S83 Boulevard Differences

Chrome
It’s IMPORTANT to NOTE: Mechanically there are very few differences
from the 1987 VS1400 Intruder, through the 2009 S83 Boulevard

Chrome

These are the changes, that I am aware of, between the older
VS1400 Intruder
& the S83 Boulevard
Chrome
1987 through 1989 use a CDI specific to those model years

1990 through 1994 use a CDI specific to those model years

1995 through 2009 use a CDI specific to those model years

1:) S83 Tall Risers with Drag Bars
VS1400 Short Risers with "Buckhorn" bars

Tall Risers with "Buckhorn" bars WILL need longer cables (speedo, throttle) longer clutch & brake lines & longer wiring
Short risers can NOT be used with Drag Bars or bars will hit the tank

2:) S83 3piece riser cap
VS1400 2 piece riser cap

3:) S83 Switch housing on left handlebar has yellow "flash to pass" button
VS1400 No "Flash to Pass" switch

4:) S83 Switch housing on right handlebar has "4 way Hazard function"
VS1400 No "4 way Hazard function" switch on

5:) S83 Signals are “Pointed”, but are interchangeable in “pairs”
VS1400 Signals are “Flat” but are interchangeable in “pairs”

6:) S83 Backrest optional & can use the assembly from the VS Intruders
VS1400 Backrest standard & can be used for the S83

7:) S83 Toolkit in chrome box on right side of motor
VS1400 Toolkit stored in backrest

Toolbox can be removed from side of motor & holes are "tapped" for three metric 6 mm bolts

8:) S83 1 piece seat
VS1400 2 piece seat AFAIK seats are interchangeable

9:) 21" rim from VS700/VS750VS/800 Intruders is a direct swap with the VS1400 & S83 Boulevard

10a:) 19" spoked rim from VS700/VS750 & VS800 is a direct bolt on for the VS1400 & S83 Boulevard

10b:) 19" Snowflake rim from VS700/VS750 Intruders is a swap-able item & WILL work on the VS1400/S83;

Snowflake Front Rim Pictures
1 & 2 & 3

Rim on the VS700/VS750 has the brake rotor on the left & the rim needs to be "flipped" & tire mounted, so that the brake rotor is on the right for use on the VS1400/S83
